WHAT TYPE OF ACCOMMODATION IS AVAILABLE?

SHAC offers two types of accommodation – Shared and Self Contained

In Shared accommodation you have your own private bedroom but will share the living room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet facilities with others living in the same flat.  Anyone aged 17 and over can apply for Shared accommodation, simply complete one of our application forms and sent it to us.  Those aged under 18 may be asked to provide a guarantor.

In Self Contained accommodation you have all your own facilities behind your own front door for the exclusive use of yourself and your family.  The number of bedrooms will vary according to your needs and the configuration of the particular property. 

However, self contained accommodation is only allocated under the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s common selection scheme.  If you are not already in social rented accommodation and wish to be considered, you need to apply through the Housing Executive.  They will assess your needs and allocate you points on the common waiting list.  You will usually be able to apply for social housing if you are 18 years of age or over and have a local connection to Northern Ireland.
